I value creating a space where my clients feel safe to be themselves. As a counselor, I use a person centered approach which focuses on the importance of building the client-therapist relationship. I think building client trust is vital in helping clients reach their treatment goals. I use evidence based practices in order to support client wellness. I believe in helping clients analyze their strengths and increase in various aspects of wellness including physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual.
In our sessions, we will primarily focus on using play therapy in order to help youth manage their emotions and gain insight into more helpful behaviors through play. I believe that play therapy gives youth the autonomy to share their story in a hands-on way. With some clients, it may be helpful to use the modality of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to support clients in managing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
I have expertise working with children five to eleven years old in the education system. I have supported students dealing with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, crisis, emotional regulation, and trauma. I have utilized cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational intervening (MI), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and exposure therapy. I hold a Master’s degree in School Counseling and Higher Education and a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
